Frequently asked questions.

What should I wear/bring for a day dig?

Our dig season is in the summer so it can be tempting to wear less. However, because the ranch is 7,000ft above sea level on one of Wyoming’s world famous buttes, there is quite a bit of direct sunlight and (at times) strong winds. We will also be digging in rock and dust all day. We can suggest:

  • Clothing with an SPF rating or fabrics meant to pull sweat away from the body

  • A hat that helps shade the front and back of your head

  • Wraparound sunglasses to prevent dust and particulates from getting into your eyes

  • Sunscreen (SPF 30+), a large bottle for water, a camera, & work gloves

What about night digs?

We will switch out the sunglasses for clear protective glasses when cutting, but winds are typically lower at night. We are also able to more clearly see where fossils are; some of the best and biggest discoveries come during the night digs! The temperature will drop but you will still be sweating. A light layer might be necessary for some.

What about meals?

We will pack a lunch out for day digs with the intention of stopping with enough time to grab something to eat in town for dinner. We will have a cooler available for keeping other snacks, drinks, meds, etc cool.

What does it cost for prepping and shipping?

Professional preparation services start at $50/hr. A large, single fish might take 3-4 hours to complete. All shipping costs are calculated based on size and weight of fossil material. Some limited pick up & delivery options are available.

I have a business and I want to purchase unprepped material to work myself or stock finished pieces in my store. Where can I buy your fossils?

We have plenty of material on offer! Please drop us a line at the Contact page so we can talk fish.
